Are you considering a chemical peel? Whether you’re looking to treat acne scars, hyperpigmentation, fine wrinkles, or dull skin, it’s critical to understand the process—before, during, and after your consultation. Keep reading to learn more.
Chemical Peels: Before
A member of our team will evaluate your skin type, goals, and medical history to decide the best type of chemical peel for you: light, medium, or deep. To improve outcomes, you may be advised to pre-treat your skin with specialized treatments such as retinoids or glycolic acid for a few weeks. Additionally, it’s a good idea to avoid waxing, tanning, and harsh exfoliants for at least 48 hours before the treatment.
Chemical Peels: During
The actual procedure doesn’t take that long. The chemical solution will be applied once your skin has been completely washed. Depending on how strong the peel is, you may experience slight tingling, stinging, or heat. Once the intended effect has been achieved, the solution is removed.
Chemical Peels: After
Recovery times vary. Light peels may result in moderate redness and flaking for a few days. Medium peels can cause swelling and peeling that lasts for about a week. Deep peels, on the other hand, might require downtime of up to two weeks. During this time, it’s important to keep the skin hydrated, prevent sun exposure, and follow any aftercare instructions we give you.
Knowing what to expect before, during, and after chemical peels will help you plan for a safe and beautiful makeover.
